Personal // lightsource // Illustration/Poster
07.18.2007
Illustration project that I decided to do with my new Mac Pro and CS3. The goal was to create a piece that felt earthy and conected to nature, specifically I was thinking of moths to the light. I was being semi-political with the idea that people today are attracted to the light source, but never question where the light comes from, they accept on blind faith that the light is there to protect you, not harm, until you get too close. Microsoft // Virtual Earth // Website & Flash Demo
07.03.2007
Microsoft Virtual Earth is a mapping engine that introduces a customizable presentation layer. This is by far the most powerful mapping tool for use on the web to date. We were tasked with a website redesign utilizing the Live branding with a new edge to help differentiate them from Live. A Flash demo to target Business Decision Makers was paired with the site. As lead designer I was able to create a design which communicated directly to the audience, as well as establish a sub-brand for the Microsoft Virtual Earth team to extend across other platforms. The Flash demo is a piece that showcases the application of the presentation layer, and allows for the viewer to send on information to their technical team for review (the redesigned site has not yet launched). Nintendo // Big Brain Academy Wii Degree // Landing Page & Nanosite
06.30.2007
Ascentium was tasked with the delivery of a designed and fully developed Flash nanosite for a new game, as well as a splash page directing to either the Wii version or the DS version of Big Brain Academy. My role was lead designer, and was teamed up with Benjamin Tudor for Flash development. The timeline was short, approximately 4 weeks to complete a few rounds of design extension, mapping to the game and packaging, and then build. The project was a success, client was very pleased, and has already decided to use our agency for additional deliverables. View the site here
Infospace // Corporate Website // Website Redesign
05.15.2007
I was on the initial creative rounds team. One of three designers, my direction was not chosen, as they felt the imagery was too consumer. I had chosen a more edgy look, very minimal and clean with bright colors and trendy photography. After a few rounds of showing different photography, the client still felt it was too consumer. When the final design was chosen, I assisted with design extension, graphic production, and the concepting and build of the home page Flash module. View the finalized site here
Microsoft // RampUp // Website
04.30.2007
Microsoft RampUp is an application developer portal to a specific set of Microsoft Learning courses, references, and tests. At the end of the creative review cycles we had come to the idea of using a sci-fi game like interface, as our initial hope was to have the ranking and point system for the learning set to mimic that of a game. In the end, the site that was created did not get utilized due to their platform being unable to support our ideas of information collecting and presenting.
Microsoft // Business Intelligence // Website Redesign
03.25.2007
The Microsoft Business Intelligence website redesign was a project tasked to Ascentium. As the sole designer assigned to this project I was presented with the challenge of solving the client’s need for a site that targeted both Business Decision Makers, as well as Technical Decision Makers. Another challenge was the fact that the branding for Microsoft.com sites is very strict. Being extremely familiar with the Microsoft brand, I was able to create a design that was both professional, unique, and not violating the Microsoft brand guidelines. The site has been a great success, and has led to many more opportunities for the Ascentium team to partner with Microsoft on. View the site here
Ascentium // Corporate Website // Careers Banner
02.13.2007
The goal was to create a hero illustration to exemplify the passion that Ascentium has towards acquiring “ROCKSTAR” level talent for their teams. I used one of our designers, Marina McDonough, as a model for the photography, I then continued by illustrating over top of the photograph until I had acquired the look and feel I wanted. I also was tasked with the motion design, which I built an animatic out for, then it was optimized by one of our developers into actionscript to decrease the load. View the site here
Personal // Thailand & Cambodia // Photography
11.26.2006
Traveling through Southeast Asia I brought my manual film SLR camera for shooting Black & White only. The emergent results were well received by myself. With all of the jungle canopy, it challenged me to find shots that would have sufficient contrast. I was able to successfully find this situation multiple times. View the gallery here
Personal // Vote Communist // Handset Printpress 11x17
09.12.2007
Did a one day print press studio experience at SVC, it was a great learning experience. What?! No history, no layers? For a young designer as myself, I had a great time realizing the turbulent and frustrating aspects of hand setting pieces, however, I did manage to get one print right. Do not take the propaganda too seriously. I have a personal obsession with political posters of the past century, and felt this was my time to apply some of that passion.
Microsoft // Hardware // Flash Product Demos
06.30.2006
While working at Horton, Lantz, & Low Microsoft Hardware was one of our largest clients, as we had the entire account. One of the last things that I worked on, and one of the most invigorating was the 2007 product line product demos. I was tasked with at first the design on the demo for their Road Warrior Mouse. This design was of a hero character, the Road Warrior, and illustrating his need for an all-in-one presenter tool. The second task was to develop the Wireless Demo. Both tasks were successful, and came out to hold a new bar for the Microsoft Hardware line. View the first demo, Road Warrior // View the second demo, Wireless

07.01.2007
On my trip to Europe in 2005, the first time I had ever traveled beyond North America, I made a conscious decision to bring my fully manual SLR film camera. This forced me to be more critical of my photos as well as make me stare at things a little longer. My favorites in this series are the Bike and Raindrops photos, for different reasons. The bike has great contrast and balance, along with crisp focus, and a definite focal point where all lines seem to coalesce into one point. On a train I saw the light being distorted through the first rain I had seen since arriving in Europe, this reminded me of home, where it rains often, the abstract focus gives it charm as it is not something the everyday person would stop to notice. Fresh Events & Maple Leaf Cellars // Branding // Logo & Identity
12.20.2005
Here are two unique identities I have done for two small local companies. Fresh Events was an event planning company that needed a brand to match their philosophy: To provide a fresh new way and style to event/wedding planning. After only one round of creative concepts the client was very pleased with my utilization of citrus elements and colors (lime, lemon, tangerine). Maple Leaf Cellar is a small, neighborhood wine shop/event-hosting venue in the Maple Leaf neighborhood. The idea was to create a better connection with clients utilizing the neighborhood as a iconic catalyst, hence the name. The predictable identity has helped people associate with the shop, and have been known to say that they did not know the store existed until they saw the logo on the awning.
